My wife and I just got back from celebrating our 8 year anniversary in the bahamas. Now that statement may illicit images of private cabanas with butlers bringing an endless supply of coronas to my wife and I, but the reality was much much different.
We decided to go almost last minute and looked for budget arrangements on a good cruise line. And while the cruise line was a great cruise line, since the budget that we wanted to spend was low, we ended up on a 3 day cruise on a 20 year old ship. If you’ve been on a cruise, you understand that old ships have less amenities, and this particular one was no exception. Add to the fact that is was a smaller ship and we spent most of the time feeling the back and fourth motion as well as trying to find things to do while aboard.
Now we still had a fantastic time celebrating our 8 years of marriage and falling in love with each other more and more each day, but, we would have had a much better experience if we would have taken the time beforehand to search out better cruise lines and allocated a more realistic budget for the trip.
Web design & development is often times the same as our cruise. With enough time and allocated budget the project gets enough attention and strategy to succeed.
For web design and development projects I’m often asked to present a budget based on no previous goals or understanding from a potential client. It’s like my wife and I showing up at a cruise port and attempting to get on a boat without any money and not knowing where or when we wanted to go.
With a rough estimate of a budget allocated for design & development coupled with a set of goals, I can then present a great budget to accomplish those goals. Depending on those goals and allocated budget I might have to request a larger budget for the project, or trim down to the most pressing goals and shoot to accomplish them.
Great design & development takes time and effort. I love giving my clients great work and accomplishing their goals while giving them a great customer experience.
I’m different than almost all web design companies in that I handle all the project management, design, and coding. Since I’m well versed in all three areas, you can rest assured that the person you are talking to does the work instead of handing it off to someone else to do.
